Accessibility Statement

All of our recent work endeavours to meet an acceptable level of accessibility. We anticipate that any visitor - regardless of ability will be able to navigate easily and gain the required information from the site. We have implemented a number of tools to aid accessibility and these are outlined below. Where text resizing is not offered as an option we have built the site to be scalable using your browsers 'text-scaling' facilities.

How to use Access Keys

Using Access Keys depends on your operating system and the type and version of browser you use to browse the internet.

PC running Windows using Internet Explorer v5+:
Press and hold the ALT key, press the Access Key and then press ENTER.

PC running Windows using Internet Explorer v4.x:
Press and hold the ALT key, press the Access Key of your choice.

PC running Windows using Netscape v6+ or Mozilla:
Press and hold the ALT key, then press the Access Key of your choice.

Macintosh computers:
Press and hold Control and then press the Access Key.

Please note that Access Keys are not supported by Opera or earlier versions of the above web browsers.

Links

Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article). Wherever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page. Link text is never duplicated; two links with the same link text always point to the same address.

There are no "javascript:" pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.

Images

All content images used on the site have descriptive ALT attributes. Purely decorative graphics include null ALT attributes. This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout.

Hints and Tips

When using a screen reader it is always best to make the font as small as possible. This stops the text from wrapping which allows the screen reader to read it more easily.

- Under the View menu there is the option Text sizes.
- Change the size to Smallest from the submenu.

Use the following procedure to change the fonts IE 5.0 and above:

  1. Select Internet Options from the Tools menu. The Internet Options dialogue box is displayed.
  2. Click the Fonts button. The system displays the Fonts dialogue box.
  3. Select the Web page font and the Plain text font as required.
  4. Click the OK button to close the Fonts dialogue box.
  5. Click the Accessibility button. The Accessibility dialogue box is displayed.
  6. Select the relevant "ignore" options to force your preferences over the web page settings. Click the OK button to close the Accessibility dialogue box.
  7. Click the OK button to close the Internet Options dialogue box.

  2. Select the Fonts option in the field on the left-hand side.
  3. Select the family and size of the Variable Width Font and the Fixed Width Font as required.
  4. You can also choose the following options: Use my default fonts, overriding document-specified fonts. (This option uses only the fonts that you have selected).
  5. Use document specified fonts, but disable Dynamic Fonts. (This option uses the fonts specified by the web page, but only if they exist on your system).
  6. Use document-specified fonts, including Dynamic Fonts. (This option uses the fonts specified by the web page and will download them if they are not available on your system).
  7. Click the OK button to close the dialogue box.
