CRBMidlands email sent to 3000 members.

21 November 2012

On 14 November 2012 Equity head office kindly emailed 3000 Equity Midland-based members, with news from the Chair of the Midlands Area Committee about the Campaign for Regional Broadcasting Midlands.

You can read below the email that Midlands members received.

Dear fellow Equity members

Please sign this petition - it's calling for the Director General of the BBC to increase the level of network BBC production in the Midlands. With the relocation of programmes, the closure of the Factual department and the scaling down of TV and radio drama production, there is very little left that is actually made here in the Midlands. The Midlands has a proud heritage of BBC TV and radio production. It has steadily disappeared.

As licence fee payers, we in the Midlands contribute 19% of the licence fee total. Only 3% is spent here. If you think that's unfair, please sign and share the petition.

If you would like to know how I (Tracey Briggs - the elected Chair of your Equity Midlands Area Committee) became involved with this campaign please read my article on the Equity website.

I hope you will sign this petition and encourage many others to sign it too. We need 5000+ signature to have some real clout with the powers that be. For too long we have been far too polite and silent, now it’s time to make a fuss. As my old mum used to say “"shy bairns get nowt!"

Thank you for your help.

Best wishes
