Jackie’s Memorial Concert Raises £2,000
Janie Voltaire writes: On October 12th a Memorial Concert for Jackie Provis was staged at Manningham Ward Labour Club in Bradford. Most of the artistes appearing had been friends of Jackie for many years including commère June Martell, who did a brilliant job holding the show together. Other artistes appearing were Johnny Dee, Janie Voltaire, Nicky Newsome, Dill Shaw, Ellie Davies and Brenda Martine.
The evening started with bingo and the Club Committee very kindly donated £100 to the fund. Sales of Jackie's CD and a raffle also boosted the amount raised.
The club steward and the committee of Manningham Labour Club were totally helpful and supportive and thanks to the generosity of all the people involved in putting on the show and the wonderful audience on the night Jackie's sister Sheila was able to present Bradford Royal Infirmary Chemotherapy Outpatients Unit with the sum of £2,022. I'm sure Jackie would be pleased.
Jackie’s sister Sheila Pullan added: “I'd like to express my gratitude to everyone who supported Jackie's Memorial concert. It was a wonderful evening and particular thanks must go to Janie Voltaire for organising the event.”
Children’s Entertainers Open Meeting
Equity’s National Variety Advisory Committee has organised the next Open Meeting for Children’s Entertainers on Thursday 10 November 2011 at 2pm at Guild House, the Union’s headquarters in London. All members who work in Children’s Entertainment are welcome.
A Benefit for Leeds City Varieties
Your Branch will be working with Humberside Variety and South Yorkshire Variety Branches to stage a Benefit Concert for Leeds City Varieties. The event, organised in conjunction with City Varieties General Manager Peter Sandeman, will take place in September 2012 to mark the first anniversary of the reopening of the venue. The venue reopened two months ago after major refurbishment including the installation of disabled access to all floors.
