CITY VARIETY THEATRE LEEDS

WANTED... Folk to submit their memories of Leeds City Varieties Music Hall

As a committee member of the Friends of the City Varieties Music Hall Theatre, I am currently compiling and editing a special book about the History of the Theatre which is to be called

                                                            BOOK OF MEMORIES

This is to celebrate the three special events we have this year - It is 60 years since Theatre owner Harry Joseph and BBC Television Producer Barney Colehan devised and produced the Television version of The Good Old Days -  It is 25 years since the Friends of the the Theatre was set up by the then General Manager Peter Sandeman, and 25 year since the council bought the Theatre and, more importantly, retained the building as a Theatre ( originally designated to be demolished and become a car park ! )

It would be difficult for this tribute to happen without the help of theatrically minded folk, producers, and artistes who have appeared there, so I am asking if you would write an article to be included in this unique piece of history, My deadline is the end of June and up to 400 words would be great if you could find the time. Your article could be serious, silly or sentimental or anything to do with the City Varieties _ The atmosphere, the audiences, the dressing cupboards, in fact anything at all ! about Artistes you've seen there. If youve appeared there, then tell me about that !

It will be published in September and be sold for around £ 3.25 / £ 3.50. All advertisers will receive a free copy.

I already have many contribution including those from Ken Dodd OBE ( who has kindley written the preface) Roy Hudd, Jimmy Cricket, Peter John, Don Reid, Duggie Chapman MBE, Kenny Cantor, Kay Mellor OBE, plus many, many more.

If you wish to be included in this unique part of history
