Shrieking Sisters

In the early hours of August 1st 1914 a group of suffragettes lead by Mrs Lilian Metge attempted to blow up Lisburn Cathedral.
What made a respectable middle class supporter of women's rights resort to active militancy?
Using a mix of new writing, original source and related material Shrieking Sisters brings to life the fascinating characters and events around the Ulster Suffrage Movement between 1912 – 1914 and the struggle for votes for women.This is the story of the little known six month militant campaign by Ulster suffragists in 1914, amidst the home rule battle and Ulster Unionism’s determination to stick with the union.

May Day Arrangements (Belfast)

The annual May Day Rally and Parade in Belfast will take place on Saturday 4 May. Assembly will be at Writer’s Square with speeches starting at 12 noon. March-off will be 12.30, the march order will be circulated nearer to the time.
