Important Update on Low Pay / No Pay Work
The Equity Council has launched a new approach to low pay/no pay work. Work in the entertainment industry offered at low rates of pay or for no pay at all continues to cause significant concern among members, but what is less clear is what approach Equity should take
Chris Ryde takes a Bow
Area Organiser Chris Ryde has announced that he will leave the post in July after more than thirty years in office. This is indeed sad news for all of us as he has served us well over the years. Personally, I can't imagine life after Chris
Annual General Meeting took place in Cardiff on 27th February. General Secretary Christine Payne and Assistant General Secretary David Cockayne were present at the top table, as was Welsh Opera Stage Manager Julia Carson Sims and Area Organiser Chris Ryde. The meeting was chaired by Welsh National Committee chairman Terry Victor
The Branch AGM will take place on Tuesday 3rd April 2012. Equity's president Malcom Sinclair will be attending as our Guest Speaker and we'll have a little catchup in the bar afterwards no doubt. Please give it your best shot to be there
Some serious re-structuring of the union is currently being proposed. This is important stuff which will affect us all. Check it out here:
A downloadable document is available
Noise Limiting Hazard
Following a suggestion from Ricky Garrett that performers should ask venues to agree to some form of compensation should their in-house noise-limiting devices damage equipment, we now have documents that do exactly that. Two forms (for single and multiple performers respectively) suitable for downloading and printing are now available in the Documents folder on the left hand side
Back to Work
Well that's the silly season done and dusted again. We hope you are all somewhat healthier, wealthier and wiser as we dive into 2012. Even two out of three would be acceptable here so maybe some new year resolutions are due! Anyway, wherever you are and whatever you do, we would like to wish you all an exiting and properous future. All together now... Happy New Year!
Please check the Important Updates page on the left hand side from time to time. You'll never know what you miss if you don't look
Equity has a vital network of branches throughout the UK which give members a voice in the union and much more. Branches hold regular meetings in their local area and all members and student members are invited to attend these to share views and experiences, discuss issues that are of importance to them and put proposals to Equity's ruling body - the Equity Council. Branches also organise a programme of social events and raise money for local charities.
If you are an Equity member or student member based in the area you are able to join the branch (no charge) so please get in touch with the Branch Secretary. If you are a member or student member visiting the area you are very welcome to drop into the next branch meeting and get to know some of your fellow members.
