The Equity Elections 2012

6 April 2012

The Equity elections 2012 are your chance to make a difference by representing your fellow members at the highest level of the union. We are holding elections for the Equity Council, the Equity President and two important Equity committees.

The Spring edition of the Equity magazine will be with you any day now. With it is a nomination for the election of the Equity Council and the Appeals or Standing Orders Committees. We are also holding an election for the Equity President. These elections are your opportunity to make a difference in your union. The Equity Council is the Governing body of Equity and is your voice in the union. It makes crucial decisions about what the union does — for example the contracts we agree with employers and the campaigns we run. It is made up of members of Equity just like you - members who volunteer to serve their union and fellow members. The Equity President chairs all meetings of the Council and represents the union at key events and the Appeals and Standing Orders Committees perform important functions on behalf of members.

To stand for the Equity Council or the Appeals or Standing Orders Committees complete the nomination paper included with your Equity magazine or visit https://www.equity.org.uk/members-area/elections/  to do it all on-line.

To stand for election as the Equity President, download a nomination from the Equity website at https://www.equity.org.uk/documents/equity-president-nomination-form-2012/?preview=true   and send your completed nomination to us by 12 noon on Friday 27 April 2012.

Under certain limited circumstances some members may not be eligible to stand for the Council. If you are in any doubt please check Rule 14 in the Equity Rule Book which can be downloaded from www.equity.org.uk/documents/equity-rules-may-2011. If you need any more information please call our elections help-line on 020 7670 0259 or e-mail elections@equity.org.uk.
