West Yorkshire Playhouse Artistic Director to speak at next Branch Meeting

We are delighted that James Brining, Artistic Director of West Yorkshire Playhouse will speak on “The Way Forward for West Yorkshire Playhouse” at your next Branch meeting. All Equity members will be welcome to this meeting. Please come along on:

Tuesday 12 February

2.00pm

Priestley Room, West Yorkshire Playhouse
Quarry Hill, Leeds, LS2 7UP

James took over as WYP Artistic Director at the end of Summer 2012. As well as hearing James’ plans for WYP’s future, there will be the opportunity to raise issues of concern to members such as Regional Casting, more and better roles for Women and proper payment for supernumerary parts. Your Branch is pleased that WYP wants local actors and theatre creatives to feel welcome and that we can return to West Yorkshire Playhouse for some of our Branch Meetings.

At the February Meeting, we will also decide on our Branch’s Resolution to Equity’s 2013 National Conference. More info inside.

Your Chance to Shape Equity’s National Policies

Every Equity Branch has the right to submit one Resolution to Equity’s Annual Representative Conference (ARC). For 2013, the Branch needs to decide on its resolution at the Branch Meeting on Tues 12 February. If you wish to propose a resolution, please would you e-mail it to equity.yrgb@gmail.com before the meeting.

It is VITAL that at least 10 Branch members attend this meeting, or the Branch will not be able to submit an ARC resolution.

The Branch is also entitled to submit one Amendment to one other ARC resolution. The Branch needs to decide on any amendment at the Branch Meeting on Tues 9 April. Again, there needs to be at least 10 Branch members at this meeting, otherwise the Branch will not be able to submit an amendment. A copy of the Resolutions that have been submitted to the ARC will be available at the April meeting and we will link to these on the Branch Web Site when they become available. Please check http://tinyurl.com/equity-yrgb for updates.

Invest for Success; Against the Cuts

Your Branch was represented on the TUC’s ‘A Future That Works’ Demonstration in London last October. Branch members will also join the Northern Towns Against Cuts demonstration in Halifax on Saturday 2 February. In addition, the Branch has urged the Unions who organised the Northern Towns Against Cuts demonstration to support Calderdale Trades Council which is currently being revived.

Committee Meeting Cancelled Twice!

Two dates were set for a Branch Committee meeting in January and on both occasions the meeting couldn’t go ahead due to adverse weather conditions. Some of the issues the Committee was due to discuss have been included in this Newsletter. Unfortunately, this Newsletter had to be published before the Committee meeting could be rearranged.

Members are welcome to inspect past Committee Minutes at Branch Meetings.

Durham Miners Gala Appeal

Your Branch has received a request for financial support from Durham Miners’ Gala. The Durham Miners’ Association, which runs the event has been saddled with a Legal Bill of £1.4m after losing a Court of Appeal Case on behalf of former miners who are suffering from osteoarthritis of the knee. For a minimum of £2 per month or £24 per year you can become a Friend of Durham Miners Gala. More information at http://www.durhamminers.org. The Meeting on 12 February will decide whether to make a donation from Branch funds.

Communicating with YOU, our Members

This is your Branch's third E-Newlsetter. For both this Newsletter and the December edition, a paper newsletter is only being sent to Branch members for whom Equity does not have an e-mail address. Other members will receive an E-Newsletter only. Some Committee members believe that this is how all future Branch mailings should be sent out.

Before we could produce E-Newsletters, members of the Branch Committee would have to copy and stuff 670 or so Newsletters into envelopes for posting for every mailing. This is time consuming and uses up a fair amount of paper.

We would like the Branch Meeting on 12 February to decide whether to only send paper Newsletters to Branch members for whom Equity does not have an e-mail address and only E-Newsletters to everyone else for ALL FUTURE NEWSLETTERS. If you can’t come to the meeting, but wish to let us know your views, please either contact the Secretary by phone or post or e-mail equity.yrgb@gmail.com
