Council Election candidates seeking Endorsement at May Branch Meeting
There will be an item on the Agenda of the joint Yorkshire Ridings General Branch and Humberside Variety Branch meeting on 12 May in which members can decide whether they wish to endorse the following candidates in the Equity Council elections: Anthony Blakesley, Pete Keal and Joy Palmer - General List seats; Barry Evans or Yvonne Joseph - Northern Area Seat; Annie Bright and Valerie Jean Mann - Variety, Circus & Light Entertainers’ seats; Roger Nott - Wales National Seat; Kezia Davis - Young Member’s seat.
The closing date for Nominations to stand in the Council, Presidential, Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee elections is 12 noon on Friday 2 May. Soon after that, Equity will be sending out Candidates’ Election Statements to all members.
These elections are your chance to decide who should sit on Equity’s policy making body - the Council. So please, read the Election Statements, find out more about candidates on Facebook, Twitter and other sources and then VOTE!

We Want to Listen (and talk) to You
Your branch needs YOU to get involved in its meetings and activities. While your Committee has tried to offer socials and meetings with interesting speakers, recently we have failed to attract as many members to these as we would like. We particularly regret that low attendances have meant that the Branch has been unable to send either a motion or an amendment to this year's National conference. As a result, Branch members have been denied this opportunity to be involved in Equity's policy making.
What are we doing wrong? What do we need to do differently? We need to learn from YOU, our members. We have started asking members who come to meetings to fill in a short questionnaire about these issues. A similar questionnaire is available for any member to fill in at http://www.equity.org.uk/branches/yorkshire-ridings-general-branch/documents/yrg-branch-member-feedback-form. Please download a copy, fill it in and send it to us. In addition, we plan to ring a number of you up to listen to your ideas on what we need to change.
Your Committee also needs new members to help bring these changes about. To find out more about how you can help, please ring Pete Keal on 01422 885211 or e-mail email@example.com
Leeds College TU Studies Course

National Insurance changes latest
Equity sent out a briefing to members on 25 February advising about the procedure for registering with HMRC for Class 2 National Insurance Contributions. This included a link to the relevant registration form CWF1. Unfortunately, the HMRC have since replaced this form with one in a completely different format which may cause confusion to members. Equity therefore recommends that you use the new form which can be downloaded from: http://www.equity.org.uk/documents/hmrc-form-cwf-1 to register. You will need to print this off, fill it in and post it to the address shown on page 2 of the form. If you need further advice on filling in the form please contact email@example.com.
