Introducing the Stage Management Brunch

6 September 2013

We are very aware that it can be very difficult to find training to improve working skills these days - especially at reasonable cost and designed especially for stage management.

Equity and the Stage Management Association (SMA) have teamed up to run a series of training and networking meetings where we will offer expert advice, tips and information in very convenient 2 hour 'brunch' meetings designed to fit around your work and other commitments - "Just bring a sandwich and we'll do the rest".

The first three brunch meetings have been announced:

No 1 - Budget and Budgeting? - 1300-1500 12th September 2013

Did you know that the secret to making and running a great budget is information and research? (- both strong areas in the SM skillset already).

David Evans, Head of Production at National Theatre of Wales and Adam Burns (SM, SMA Board, Equity Councillor) will be joined by the SMA's Andy Rowley. We'll demystify the subject of budgets, and offer skills and tips to help you make and run your work finances with confidence. Ever wondered why lighting get all the bells and whistles while stage management make do and struggle to eek out their budget? This session could make your next production a whole lot less worrisome!

No 2: Technicians or Managers? - 13:00-15:00 24th October 2013

How technical do SM's have to be in a new era of accessible technology? Employers and technical experts advise.

No 3: Expanding work horizons: SM's and TV - 13:00-15:00 14th November 2013

A representative from BECTU will explain how the 'Visions' project is placing SM's in TV jobs, and explore the opportunities and routes for SM's into TV. Assisted by a Head of Production in TV production and experienced TV production staff. Find out what the opportunities are, about the possible jobs to aim for, and how you might fit TV work into your career.
