Council agrees committee changes
27 January 2013
The Council has agreed a new structure for the union’s network of committees with three new and powerful industrial committees — Screen, Stage and Variety, Circus and Entertainers — with devolved authority to conduct negotiations made up of members with recent experience of relevant work and elected by members who have also worked in the area. Supporting these committees will be four industrial sub-committees — Audio, Singers, Stage Management and Creative Team, again made up of working members.
The two deputies’ committees — Opera and West End — will continue to meet, as will the Stunt Committee which deals with entry to and progression through the joint industry grading scheme for stunt performers.
Committees of members in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales will continue their work and the union’s four equality committees — Women, Disability, Minority Ethnic and Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Transgender — and the Young Members’ Committee will be re-elected this year.
All committees in the new structure will have representation at the union’s Annual Representative Conference.
Committees will be elected this year and take office in July. Nomination papers will be available from February and distributed to all members with the Spring edition of the Equity magazine. Nominations close on 10 May and voting starts in June and closes on 12 July.
