Equity concerned about threat to BBC local radio

30 March 2011

Microphone

Equity is approaching the BBC to express its concern about plans to cut local radio, with the majority of programming being delivered by Radio 5 Live. This will result in severe job losses for our members who work as radio presenters for BBC local radio. These plans are the complete opposite of what local radio is supposed to be about – meeting the needs of listeners in the city, together with those in nearby towns and the rural communities. Local communities will not have their needs met by Radio 5 Live. The BBC must protect the future of local radio.
