Equity scoops two TUC communications awards

29 June 2012

Equity's communications have been recognised as outstanding by the TUC, which has given Equity awards for best trade union magazine and for best trade union website.

Equity's Communications and Press Officer Phil Pemberton is pictured collecting the award for best magazine from TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber at a ceremony in London on 28 June.

The Judges said of the magazine: “Equity has high quality production values, with an interesting mix of material and some very good member interviews. There are some excellent articles on the work that the union does for its members – in areas like legal protection, for example. The tremendous breadth of coverage greatly impressed the judges as did the overall layout.”

Of the web site the judges said: “Bright, bold and eye-catching, Equity’s site was a clear winner for the judges for the clarity of its presentation. Visitors immediately understand who Equity are, what they do and how to navigate to find the information they need. It also has links to compelling content from members, a simple ‘join up’ page, and useful info on jobs and careers.”

The judges were: Julie Elliot MP; Andrew Linnington, Head of Communications, Nautilus International; Gregor Poynton, Political Director, Blue State Digital; Catherine  MaCleod, Journalist and Lindsay England, Campaigner, Just a Ball Game?.

Equity Assistant General Secretary Martin Brown has commented: "Equity is 100 per cent committed to communicating with members to the very best of our ability so that members can take an active part in their union. Equity is fortunate to have a highly talented communications team and I am delighted that their work has been recognised by winning not one, but both of the TUC's top awards for outstanding communications. This a proud day for Equity"
