Good news for live entertainers
27 June 2013
From today street entertainers, Punch & Judy performers and many more people working in live entertainment will benefit from further changes to the Licensing Act achieved by Equity.
Following the successful and swift passage through Parliament of an Order to amend the Licensing Act, plays, dance and other forms of live entertainment staged for audiences of up to 500 people, between 8am and 11pm, are now free from licensing requirements.
Welcoming the changes, Equity General Secretary Christine Payne noted the contribution that variety artists and entertainers to the UK’s cultural offer, she said:
“This is fantastic news for live entertainment workers and just in time for the busy summer season when our members will be out in force in towns, cities and holiday destinations throughout the UK. These important changes will help to preserve and encourage forms of entertainment that are enjoyed by so many people, and in particular tourists and visitors to the UK.”
