Job opportunity at Equity
2 April 2015
Regional Organiser for the South East Area (London-based)
Equity is the UK trade union representing performers and other creative workers from across the spectrum of the entertainment, creative and cultural industries.
We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the energy and commitment to take on a challenging and rewarding role.
We are seeking to appoint an official to organise, support and represent Equity Members working in the entertainment industries including theatre, variety, film, television, radio and games in the South East of England.
You will be based in Equity’s London head office as part of a team of industrial organisers working across the hugely diverse Equity membership from actors, stage managers, dancers and singers to comedians, variety artists and models.
The role is perfect for someone who will seize the opportunity to expand Equity’s work into new areas, independently develop and implement projects, get out and about across the South East region visiting members in their workplaces and branches, and face new challenges every day; from helping a branch develop a local campaign and ensuring a singer gets paid for a gig one day, to saving a theatre threatened with closure the next.
Ideally you will have trade union and/or community organising experience, understand membership organisations and the balance of needs for both servicing and organising, possess excellent negotiation, communication and advocacy skills, and have competent IT skills. The post is based in Equity’s head office in central London, but extensive travel is required across the region so a full driving licence is essential.
The starting salary is £43,020.60, rising on a scale, with car provided along with 31 days annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.
Closing date for receipt of applications is 12 noon Monday 1st June 2015.
Interviews will be held on Friday 19th June 2015at the Union’s head office in Guild House, Upper St Martin’s Lane, London WC2H 9EG.
Equity is committed to advancing equality in all that we do and welcomes applications from all sections of the community.
