Nottingham Playhouse Council support threatened

16 January 2013

Nottingham Playhouse is celebrating 50 years of life with fantastic critical reviews and bigger audiences than ever.

Sadly one of their major funders, Nottinghamshire County Council, is not in the party mood.  In November the Local Authority announced it planned to cut the venue's entire £94,500 grant next year.

There has been an extremely strong reaction to the proposed cuts locally.  A national petition has been set up.  All Equity members are encouraged take two minutes to have your say here: www.change.org/petitions/nottinghamshire-county-council-withdraw-proposal-to-cut-100-funding-to-nottingham-playhouse-2

If you are a resident of Nottinghamshire - or know someone who is - do also complete the County Council's consultation by 17 January 2014. Cuts to the theatre are proposal 48.  The Playhouse management has asked us to highlight that the Equality Assessment in the consultation is inaccurate and that they are sending the Council correct details of all the work they do for different audiences in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. Much of this will be threatened unless the County Council alters their plans.
