Newcastle, Sheffield and Stoke agree arts cuts

Newcastle's Theatre Royal, Northern Stage and Live Theatre, Sheffield's  Lyceum, Crucible and the Studio and Stoke-on-Trent’s New Vic Theatre have all been hit with cuts totalling around £200,000, after their respective local authorities approved budget proposals.

The Theatre Royal, Northern Stage and Live Theatre in Newcastle will lose £60,000 in Council funding, the Lyceum, the Crucible and the Studio in Sheffield will have its annual grant of £529,000 from Sheffield City Council cut by 20% from April this year and the New Vic’s annual grant of £67,500 from Stoke-on-Trent City Council is to be cut by a third.
