Update on Disclosure and Barring Service
10 April 2013
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is a checking service for employers who are legally entitled to ask about an applicant’s criminal background and it is most relevant to Equity members who are children's entertainers and freelance entertainers. The service launched on 1 December 2012 and effectively replaced the system of Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checks that members may have become familiar with over recent years. The new body is a merger between the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
