National Official - Northern Ireland

We are seeking to appoint a National Official to organise, support and represent Equity members working in both live performance and recorded media in Northern Ireland.

The role is part time (21 hours/week) and based in our Belfast office, but extensive travel is required across Northern Ireland so a full driving licence is essential.

National/Regional Officials work under the leadership of their Assistant General Secretary, and in liaison with other Officials. They are responsible for providing effective negotiations, organising and servicing to members in their designated part of the UK, including managing a caseload, and supporting the organising strategy in that nation or region. National/Regional Officials are responsible for industrial areas across both the Live Performance and Recorded Media Departments.

Ideally you will have trade union experience, understand the organising agenda, possess excellent negotiation, communication and advocacy skills, be highly motivated, able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team and have competent IT skills. You will have an understanding of the demands of working to organise and support members within a political environment, working in line with the Union’s democratic structures, and operating within trade union law and the Union’s own Rules.

Salary and benefits

The starting salary is £31,043.37 (this figure has been pro-rated for three days/week from the equivalent full-time salary of £51,738.95), with a car provided and 19.5 days’ annual leave (pro-rated from the full-time equivalent) and a contributory pension scheme.

Organiser - Live Performance

The Live Performance Department requires an Organiser, who will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of potential union members working in the field of theatre, variety and other live performance. The successful applicant will work as part of a team supporting the department’s Industrial Officials and co-ordinating the recruitment and retention work for the department, and will undertake workplace visits.

This is an exciting, fast-paced and outward-facing role, regularly meeting members and non-members in the workplace, and implementing the union’s recruitment and retention strategies. The role will also have shared responsibility for the union’s work with students.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to plan and implement initiatives and to co-ordinate work with the other Organisers both nationally and regionally. Equity is seeking applicants who can demonstrate commitment to the trade union movement.

Salary and benefits

The starting salary is £44,159.52 (including London weighting), with 31 days’ annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.

Organiser/Assistant - North East, Yorkshire and Humberside

We are recruiting for an Organiser, who will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of potential union members working across the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside. The successful applicant will work as part of a team supporting the local Regional Official and co-ordinating the recruitment and retention work for the region, and will undertake workplace visits.

The post will be based from our Manchester office, but most working days will be spent on visits around the designated region. They will also be required to assist the Regional Official with administrative work.

This is an exciting, fast-paced and outward-facing role, regularly meeting members and non-members in the workplace, and implementing the union’s recruitment and retention strategies.

The successful applicant will demonstrate the ability to plan and implement initiatives and to co-ordinate work with the other Organisers both nationally and regionally. Equity is seeking applicants who can demonstrate commitment to the trade union movement.

Industrial Official - Recorded Media

We are recruiting for an Industrial Official in our Recorded Media Department. Industrial Officials in the Recorded Media Department work under the leadership of their Assistant General Secretary, and in liaison with other Officials. They are responsible for providing effective negotiations, organising and servicing to members in the field of recorded media, including managing a national caseload, and leading on negotiations around our collective agreements. The specific areas covered by the Official are set by the Assistant General Secretary, and may vary from time to time. Responsibilities may be shared across both Live Performance and Recorded Media Departments.

We are seeking to appoint an Industrial Official to take forward our work within commercials and adverts, and to be responsible for the continued development of campaigns, strategy, external profile, casework and collective and individual negotiations with engagers.

Fighting on behalf of some members in a particularly challenging sector, Equity seeks an individual with excellent communication, negotiation and campaigning skills who can deal with a wide range of stakeholders.

You will need to be highly motivated, with excellent communication skills, and able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. You will have an understanding of the demands of working to organise and support members within a political environment, working in line with the Union’s democratic structures, and operating within trade union law and the Union’s own Rules.

Salary and benefits

The starting salary is £56,288.74 (including London weighting), with 31 days annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.
