Equity is the UK trade union representing performers and other creative workers from across the spectrum of the entertainment, creative and cultural industries. We are currently recruiting for the role of Head of Finance.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone with the energy and commitment to take on a challenging and rewarding role.

The role of Head of Finance is responsible for the oversight and delivery of all finance functions within Equity, including budgeting, payroll, banking, invoicing, investments, annual audits and reporting to the Council, Equity’s elected governing body. The post reports directly to the General Secretary, and works closely with the Honorary Treasurer (an elected official responsible for the oversight and good governance of Equity’s finances). We have planned for a period of overlap with the current Head of Finance, and one of the first tasks of the new Head of Finance will be to recruit a Finance Organiser to complete the finance team.

The role would suit someone with prior experience of leading a finance team at a similarly sized organisation, with advanced knowledge of the trade union/performing arts sectors, and the skills required to operate at a senior level.

You will have an understanding of the demands of providing a comprehensive finance function within a political environment, reporting to the General Secretary as well as elected officials and the Union’s democratic structures, and operating within trade union law and the Union’s own Rules.

You will need to have a tactful, positive approach to dealing with our team of 60 staff, and with our 48,000 members on a wide range of issues.

You will be an exceptionally skilled strategist, with significant experience of budgeting within a similarly sized organisation, managing cashflow, investments, and advising senior management on financial policy. You will be ready to hit the ground running, and will be able to demonstrate astute decision making under pressure.

The starting salary is £70,852.05 (including London weighting), with 31 days annual leave and a contributory pension scheme.
