Obituary/eulogy: Robert Nield

3 August 2017

Alan Jacklott has written the following  to mark the sad passing of Robert Nield, on behalf of Merseyside Variety Branch:

"TAKE A BOW, JOHN ROBERT"
Robert Nield, born John Robert Nield 3rd April 1926 and passed away 31st July 2017
Stalwart and Life Member of Equity. Member and former Committee Member of the Merseyside Variety Branch of long standing.
A proud trade union member. Gentleman and a Gentle Man.
Robert's career included radio, television, theatre and film.
At Variety Branch Events, Robert was always word perfect at his recitals of work by Dickens and Shakespeare. He was a perfectionist.
Up until February of this year, aided to and from the branch meetings by his loyal friend, Ron Povey, Robert enjoyed the company of the members at the meetings and social catch ups afterwards. Very generous supporting branch funds plus paying towards bar beverages!
He attended a couple of parties hosted by friend and fellow member, Alan Jacklott. Alan thought that Robert had more stamina and positive attitude than some people half his age. Rain or shine, bad health or good, he made the effort with assistance from Ron.
Although Robert did not manage to visit the General Branch, his thoughts were there for the well being of the branch. His loyalty to the Variety Branch will never be forgotten.
In body. Now in Spirit. Take a bow, John Robert and send our love to our other Absent Friends. T.T.F.N.
