North East Variety Branch Newsletter

January 2017

Happy New Year from the NEVB and welcome to the first newsletter of 2017.

We hope you had a very busy and prosperous December and are ready for the challenges of a new year.

Like most of our members I have been quite busy over the festive period and I am now just starting to catch up on Union business.

Why not come along to our first meeting of the new year, to be held next Tuesday, 31st January.

We will have a guest speaker in attendance, Mark Ainsley, who is working as a stunt person within the film industry. He is currently working with an IT company developing an app to create an online database for the employment of walk on and supporting artistes, a system that performers can control themselves. This app is already in development and Mark would like to launch it in the North East and would like our views. So please come along and see what he has to offer us.

After many long years of service to our Union, Martin Brown, our Assistant General Secretary responsible for membership, retired in December of last year. I am pleased to announce that his successor, Matt Hood, our new "Assistant General Secretary" has asked to be invited to our Branch meeting to talk about his new role within membership and communication.

He will be joining us for our March meeting. So please come along and help us extend a warm north east welcome to Matt.

We are currently planning for this year's Annual Conference and the deadline for motions is Monday 13th March. If you have any burning issues that you would like your union to take action on please let me know and we can put a motion together for conference.

Obviously the deadline means that we have only our January and February meetings to do this, so please get your thinking caps on.

If you have any items of news that you might like included in future newsletters please let either myself or Jessica Irving (our assistant secretary) know.

The meeting dates up to and including our Annual General Meeting are as follows:

31st January

28th February

28th March

25th April

30th May (Annual General Meeting)

All meetings commence at 7:30pm and are held at the Alberta Social Club, Railway Street, Jarrow.

Steve McGuire

Branch Secretary
