THE BBC is using too many London-based actors for dramas filmed in Northern Ireland and the republic, relegating locals to "cough and spit" supporting roles.
The claim has been made by Equity, the trade union for actors, which said it is losing members because BBC dramas such as The Fall, a Belfast-set psychological thriller starring Gillian Anderson that went on air this month, are using expat actors who live "within the M25" in England for leading roles in Northern Ireland productions instead of jobbing actors who live in the region.

The key objective of the MY THEATRE MATTERS campaign is to engage with audiences about the threat of funding cuts, particularly from local Councils, which is facing the theatres they love. Equity members are key to delivering that message. It is after all Equity members who audiences come to see perform and that interaction between audiences and performers is the very essence of theatre.
