Message from the Chair - Rhubarb the Clown

5 February 2013

First I would like to congratulate and welcome our new Branch committee elected at our Annual General Meeting last November. The full list can be found by clicking on "Contacts" at the top left of this page.

A particularly warm welcome goes to our brand new Branch Secretary, Deborah Charnley who I am sure is busy learning her new role -Good Luck!

At our first committee meeting of the year we mapped out our meetings for the year the first 3 being.

2-30 pm 21st February 2013 at Guild House

2-30 pim 18th April 2013 at Guild House

2-30 pm 6th June 2013 meeting at Guild House but with the hope, weather permitting, to move on to  a picnic at a local park -a first for the Branch.

Meanwhile I am pleased to report that, as a Councillor, I successfully proposed a motion to the December Council to obtain its full backing of street performing members who are trying to negotiate with Westminster and Lambeth Councils to regularise perfomance inTrafalgar Square and the South Bank respectively.

At the January Council meeting approved last years accounts which I was relieved to note were nearer balance than had been projected given the costs of the just concluded legal case. This was helped by the increase in membership over last year which suggests we must be doing something right.

Another major item on the agenda was the restructuring of Equity's committee structure which folows on from the recent referendum. Watch out for the up and coming elections to fill these committees. Now is the time for YOU to start considering what role you could play in this new streamlined structure. A Union is only as strong as its members.

If you have any questions on this or matters that you would like me to take up either in the branch or at Council please free to contact me, Rhubarb the Clown on 020 8800 5009 or
