Come to Our Seasonal Social

Yorkshire Ridings Branch invites members, their partners and friends to our Winter Social. This will also take place on Wednesday 11 December from 5.30pm at the VictoriaHotel, Great George Street, Leeds, LS1 3BB. The Victoria is a short walk away from Morrish Solicitors’ offices and we hope that lots of you will come along. We would like to include some informal entertainment as part of the evening, so if you have a song, short sketch, story or other piece you would like to share, that would be great. Please note however that there will be no stage or amplification available.

Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign

Your Branch voted to support the Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign at its November meeting. OTJC includes ex-miners, trades unionists, activists and others who are determined to get justice for miners who were victims of police lies and cover-ups at Orgreave, South Yorkshire in June 1984. A copy of the agreed motion can be downloaded from

We urge you to write to your MP calling for a Public Enquiry into the policing of Orgreave, to send letters to local Newspapers and to raise the issue in radio phone-ins. The Branch meeting also agreed to donate the proceeds of the day’s raffle to OTJC. We also urge you to make a donation. Cheques should be made payable to Orgreave Truth and Justice Campaign and sent to 151 Cobnar Road, Sheffield, S8 8QE.

How should Equity’s Unknown funds be spent?

Equity has accumulated £1.2million of what is referred to as 'unknown funds'. A Court Case which will determine whether these monies should be used for either for ‘union general purposes’ or for ‘the benefit of Equity members’, has been postponed until April 2014. If you have views as to how these monies should be spent for the benefit of members, please e-mail, or write to Roy Radford, Buttercup Cottage, South Zeal, Okehampton, EX20 2JU.

Can You Spare a Raffle Prize?

Your Equity Branch holds a raffle to raise money for branch funds at each meeting and we need prizes! Can you donate a prize for a future raffle? It would be a good opportunity to recycle something you no longer want for a good cause! If you can spare a raffle prize, please bring it to any Branch meeting or Social.

Your Branch needs help with Fund Raising. If you have ideas, or can help with raising money for the Branch, please e-mail

Happy Midwinter Festivities and Good Wishes for 2014 to all members
