Yorkshire Ridings General Branch Annual Representative Conference 2013 Motion

21 February 2013

At its February meeting Yorkshire Ridings General Branch agreed  to submit the following motion to the 2013 ARC:

"This ARC is concerned that the new structure of the Union, with the elimination of the English Area Committees and Specialist Committees including Walk-Ons, disadvantages the many members who relied on these committees to represent their specialist area of work.

This ARC calls upon Council to ensure that these members are not denied a voice in the Union in this way and urges Council to put structures in place to monitor the representation of these groups.
"

The Branch agreed to submit the following motions to Equity's Council:

"General Branch Elections

The Yorkshire Ridings general Branch notes:

1.    that unlike Variety Branch elections, General Branch Committee elections have to be by postal ballot;

2.    that while Variety Branch Officers are elected by the membership, General Branch Officers are elected only by members of the Branch Committee.

 The Yorkshire Ridings general Branch believes:

1.    that General Branches are at a disadvantage by not being able to elect Committee members with full rights at their Annual General Meetings;

2.    that Union democracy would benefit if members of all Branches had the right to vote for their Branch Officers.

The Yorkshire Ridings general Branch therefore calls on Council to amend Clauses 5 and 6 of Rules and Standing Orders for General Branches by incorporating Clause

6 (e) of Variety Branch Rules amended as necessary."

"Induction and Training for Branch Officers and Committee Members

Equity Yorkshire Ridings General Branch calls on the Council to provide more training sessions, materials and resources for Branch Officers and Committee members.

Equity Yorkshire Ridings General Branch further calls on the Council to implement the Branch's amendment to Motion 1 that was passed at the 2012 ARC calling for the promotion and development of Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discrimination training opportunities for Branch Officers and Committee members."
