The Federation of Entertainment Unions (FEU) has created an alternative white paper in advance of government proposals on the future of the BBC. The FEU believes the BBC should remain the cornerstone of UK broadcasting and content production. There are, however, several areas where we believe the BBC can be reformed in order to better meet the expectations of licence fee payers and to uphold the highest standards of public service.

The regular meeting of the Equity Liverpool & District General Branch - Members

Meeting was called to order at 6.30 in Liverpool Everyman by Stephanie Greer.

Approval of Agenda

Agenda was approved.

Approval of Minutes

Minutes of the meetings held on 1st July 2015 & 3rd September 2015 were read. Proposed

as true records by Emma Heron & Alan Jacklott and seconded by Alan Jacklott & Eric

Dean, respectively. Agreed unanimously.

Matters Arising: There was a good turn-out of TUC members, including Equity at demo

against Arts cuts on 4th October. Members who spoke included Billy Bragg, Nicola

Hawkins & Julie Hesmondhalgh. There was a flashmob at Piccadilly & the events

attracted national press coverage.

We are already affiliated to Liberty.

Xmas social was held at The Ethical Glass on 11th December. Variety members attended.

.Free buffet provided by venue. Raffle held.

The new Committee was introduced, unopposed.

Secretaries Report read & included above.

Area Organisers Report: 5% cuts to funding for Culture, Media & the Arts. Arts

Council funding has increased. Our Campaign has had an impact. We should be glad, but

not complacent.

Be aware of what is happening at local level. Any L.A. cuts need to be fought. Arts/

Culture is not a statutory requirement & will continue to be at risk.

Capital spend needs to be matched by revenue spend – performances as well as buildings.

Equity has a general open meeting in the North, on Wednesday, 2nd March at 2.00pm.

Venue not yet established. Senior Officers will attend & be available to answer questions.

Treasurers Report : Post has been handed over. Treasurer will be examining new


Committee members have not been able to claim expenses. Proper system needs to be put

in place.

Bank a/c will be changing.

No cost incurred at Ethical Glass & £28 made on raffle (even in absence of Foot-spa!)

Targets for the year: Social events to continue, including Theatre visit & Summer


Campaigning at local & National level to continue.

ARC & motions: Deadline is 9th March at 12.00, for motions to be submitted from

Branch. Previous motions have been successful eg. Ticket discounts, local casting &

rehearsal. Any motions submitted must be voted on at next meeting.

Ossie Yue has been unwell. Alan will e-mail him sending best wishes from all at Branch.

We should look at discount for cinema tickets. Committee to consider at next meeting.

Next Meeting –ARC 2/3/16 at 2.00p.m.


Meeting was adjourned at 7.08 by Stephanie Greer. The next general meeting will be at

6.30 on March 2, 2016, in Everyman.
