Arts Funding Survey Report 2008

In 2008 Equity launched a survey of its members seeking their
views about the process of arts funding and how it could be improved.
This initiative came only a few days after Arts Council England (ACE)
announced its final decisions on arts funding for the three years from April
2008. This announcement included a small number of significant changes to
its original proposals, but came at the end of a campaign which has left many
arts practitioners with little or no faith in ACE as it operates currently.
The survey was also conducted against the background of the McMaster
Report on supporting excellence in the arts, which was published in January
2008. This report included a number of themes such as greater involvement
of artists in decision making, through methods such as self assessment and
