Following a successful funding bid, Equity's Bristol & West General Branch are delighted to announce it will host a symposium event around Mental Health within the Entertainment Industry at Bristol Old Vic on 2nd October 2019, ahead of World Mental Health Day (October 10th).
To fund this event, the branch applied for one of Equity's 'Unknown Funds' grants. In January 2017, a High Court ruling permitted that a mystery £1 million discovered in Equity’s accounts can be used for union purposes as well as donated to charity [more info here]. The funding for the event was approved by Equity Council, and we extend our thanks to all Councillors who were involved in this decision.
The symposium event is intended to be a day-long seminar of key-note speeches, panel Q&A's, and Open-Space discussions all about the issues and concerns around Mental Health in our industry. A huge amount of good work is being done all around our industry on the subject of Mental Health, in response to a crisis which is growing ever-more clear. This feels like the right time to bring some of those voices together for a conversation about what the next steps forward might be.
The schedule and list of speakers for this event will be announced in the coming months, as well as information on how to book. This event will be open to both Equity members and non-members.
We welcome any offers of skills and time towards the organisation of this event - which will primarily be coordinated by volunteers on the branch committee - and to be on hand on the day itself. Please contact the branch on the details below.
