Apply for the John Fernald Award

The John Fernald Award is now receiving applications for this year’s award, which will be considered in March 2016.
Aim of the Award
The Award was set up in 1988 from the estate of the late theatre director and RADA principal, John Fernald, with the aim of helping emerging Assistant Theatre Directors gain valuable experience within their field. A total of £5,000 is distributed annually.
Theatre Directors or Theatre Makers, with a minimum two years professional experience in the theatre, or someone who has completed a University or Professional Drama School course may apply.
Please note that applicants must be UK or Irish citizens.
Purpose of the Award
The Award is to fund or part-fund a play or live site-specific event to be directed by the applicant.
Timing of Fund
A single £5,000 Award is distributed annually.
Who is it for?
Theatre Directors or Theatre Makers who work in Live Performance.
How to apply
Those who are applying must provide the following:
- A personal statement
- A two page outline of the project or live event
- A preliminary budget
- Two letters of recommendations from a theatre practitioner or a member of a University or Drama School in support of their application. Please note that these letters must be sent under separate cover, unseen by the applicant
- A current CV
Please note that if shortlisted, the applicant will be required to come to London to be interviewed by the Equity Charitable Trust committee.
