National Insurance Changes
6 April 2017
Following the disappointing news that the government in its budget had chosen to further increase the burden on the self-employed by increasing Class 4 national insurance, there has now been a row back on the planned Class 4 hike so that this is not now going to happen.
However, the abolition of Class 2 national insurance is still in the pipeline along with increases in the cost of voluntary national insurance payments for those who are below the Small Profits Threshold (SPT), currently £5,965. These changes are due from Aprl 2018.
Going forward from 2018 benefit entitlement will accrue mainly through Class 4 contributions for the self-employed. We will be posting a briefing with the current national insurance contributions position in the near future.
