Credits campaign is a success

6 January 2013

TV creditsLeading broadcasters, including SKY, Channel 4 and S4C have agreed with Equity that TV credits are an important part of programming and should not be marginalised.

The union has campaigned since 2004 against onscreen credits being squeezed, a practice Equity believes can harm the employment prospects of members.

Following recent campaign activity, including the union contacting UK broadcasters directly on this issue, the way credits are displayed will be changed.

Sky led the way by surveying its subscribers and finding that three-quarters of its viewers believe that readable credits are important.

The broadcaster is now making changes on how credits are shown and subsequently, the BBC and ITV want to dicuss changes with the union.

Equity secures credit success

We need readable credits so us actors can read who was the casting director or the director of the show. Thinking that it is not important is crazy, the costume departant the editors etc etc.. work really hard and need to see there name up there on the screen. It's just a case of more time for advertising for the companies - money money money.
