Equity Council, Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee Nominations now open
8 March 2018
Nominations have now opened for candidates seeking election to the Equity Council, Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee at www.equity.org.uk/elections.
Council is the governing body of our union, and makes crucial decisions about what the union does – like overseeing agreements with employers or deciding on the union’s campaigns.
The Council is elected every two years. This is your opportunity to help shape your union for the future.
There are 13 general seats open to any in benefit member and also seats representing Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, or the different English regions – although you must be resident there to stand for these seats.
There are seats for disciplines such as audio work, creative team, dance, singing, stage management and variety & circus.
There are also reserved seats for members with disabilities, minority ethnic members and young members.
You can be proposed and seconded by your fellow members, and if the seat requires proof of work or evidence or that you live in a certain area, then your proposer would need to be equally qualified.
There are also elections for the Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee, and for the role of Equity President.
Nominations for Council, Appeals Committee and Standing Orders Committee should preferably be made online at www.equity.org.uk/elections. A printed nomination form was sent to members with the Equity magazine in February, and can be downloaded from www.equity.org.uk/documents/equity-elections-2018-nomination-form/. Candidates for the Council can also seek nomination from an Equity branch, the process of which is explained on the printed nomination form.
Candidates for President need the nominations of 40 members and this can only be completed on a form which you can download from www.equity.org.uk/documents/president-election-2018-nomination-form/.
If you require a printed copy of either form please do ask.
Nominations close at noon on 25 April 2018. Ballot papers will be despatched to eligible members on 6 June 2018 and the ballot closes at noon on 4 July 2018.
