Equity given Newport Beach Film Festival UK Honour
16 February 2018
Equity has been awarded a UK Honour by Newport Beach Film Festival (NBFF), who have named the union an Arts Champion.
An Arts Champion is described by NBFF as an "outstanding organization, corporation, institution or individual, that promote, defend, produce, educate, and encourage creativity and the arts."
Equity Vice President Maureen Beattie recieved this honour on behalf of the union at a NBFF's ceremony on 15 February, 2018 at the Rosewood Hotel in London's West End.
As she recieved the award, Maureen said: "I am delighted to be accepting this award on behalf of Equity’s 50 thousand members, some of whom are also being honoured individually this evening. Our union is our members, each a champion of the arts in the UK in their own right.
"The country has immense depths of skill and talent, but we can only continue at the heights of this global industry if our workers are paid properly, if all those with talent can afford to follow it regardless of background and if we can work safely, free from harassment of any kind. That is what we fight for; Equity is honoured to be recognised for it.”
