Fighting for performers' rights
10 June 2011
Alongside sister unions in the International Federation of Actors (FIA) Equity is calling on the World Intellectual Property Organisation to act now to close the most significant gap between the intellectual property rights enjoyed by performers and musicians by finalising the Audiovisual Performances Treaty.
Performers around the world need IP protection to look after their reputation and to be able to make a living of their profession. FIA and Equity continue to press governments to conclude an international treaty at WIPO on the basis of the consensus gathered around 19 articles at the 2000 Diplomatic Conference. These articles would be a landmark achievement for audiovisual performers around the world that could genuinely improve their livelihoods.
