New award for directors
17 February 2016
The Royal Theatrical Support Trust (RTST) has launched the RTST Director Award scheme with Sheffield Theatres.
The scheme will provide an opportunity for an emerging director to create and direct a full-scale production of a play by an internationally-renowned dramatist at Sheffield’s Crucible Studio Theatre. The production will be supported by a grant of up to £25,000 by the RTST to Sheffield Theatres.
The award will be given to an emerging director after the demonstration of directorial skills in a competitive process.
A selection panel of leading theatre practitioners appointed by the RTST will select the short-listed candidates; observe and judge the workshops; and select the ultimate award winner and runner-up.
The selection panel will be chaired by Daniel Evans, the current artistic director of Sheffield Theatres and artistic director-designate of Chichester Festival Theatre. Its other members will be Sir Ian McKellen, Dawn Walton, Richard Wilson and Penelope Wilton.
