Northern Ireland First Minister the Rt. Hon. Peter D. Robinson MLA and deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness MP, MLA have congratulated director Terry George and everyone involved in the making of ‘The Shore’ following their success in the live action short film category at the Oscars.

The film, which was shot on location at Coney Island, Co Down, stars local actors Ciaran Hinds, Conleth Hill and Equity Council member Maggie Cronin (pictured left) and tells a story of reconciliation through the eyes of a returning emigrant.

The Ministers said: “We congratulate Terry George and the cast and crew of 'The Shore' and also Northern Ireland Screen, which provided the funding for its production. Winning an Oscar is a brilliant achievement and this short film showcases our position as a premier location for Film and TV production. It is a vote of confidence and global recognition for our ongoing commitment to the film industry.

"The cinematography captures the beauty of our coastline and gives cinema-goers the world over the opportunity to view our beautiful landscapes."
