Opportunities for East Asian members
31 January 2013
Arts Council England, Equity, SOLT/TMA, CDG and the Young Vic are working together on an Open Space event that is taking place to address the lack of employment opportunities for East Asian artists in UK theatre and collaborate on improving the situation.
Opening the Door will enable the theatre sector to come together to discuss barriers to East Asian employment, acknowledge the problem and identify actions which will increase the participation, contribution and employment of East Asian artists in UK theatre.
The day will be facilitated by the highly regarded Improbable Theatre Company, who run the successful Devoted and Disgruntled national conversation about the future of theatre. Before the Open Space session, the scene will be set with a number of very short PechaKucha (‘Lightning Talk’) presentations by actors, directors and writers. The day will end with a gathering of all participants to agree the key issues from the day and actions that should take place following it.
The event should also be an excellent opportunity for networking, with most of the Young Vic’s many spaces being open to participants.
The event will take place on Monday, 11 February 2013 at the Young Vic in London.
