Equity welcomes Scotland's increase investment in the cultural sector

15 December 2017

Equity welcomes the Scottish Government's draft budget announcement, which outlines their commitment to developing and supporting the cultural sector, and specifically to making provision for Creative Scotland over the next three years "so that they can maintain support for the Regular Funding programme in the face of a significant decline in Lottery receipts"

The union also welcomes Creative Scotland's subsequent announcement. The development body have stated that their 2018/2019 discretionary Grant in Aid budget is £38.912m, a 21.2% increase on 2017/2018 (including an extra £6.6. million for Regularly Funded Organisations, in response to the fall of National Lottery income), and that there will be an additional £10 million of funding for Screen as part of their overal 2018/2019 budget.

Equity calls on other national and local governments to follow this example, and to mirror Scotland's funding increases.
