At its meeting in February 2019, the Equity Council made the following decisions:
- To approve a draft budget for 2019
- To continue supporting the Equity Charity Poker Tournament
- To set the deadline for receipt of all motions to Council, including procedural motions, as noon on the Friday before the circulation of Council papers
- To co-opt Windson Liong to the Minority Ethnic Members Committee
- To consider a proposal to change to Rule 3.1.1 at its next meeting in March 2019
- To nominate Lynda Rooke to the South West TUC’s Women’s Committee
- To approach BECTU over members’ concerns regarding make-up for vegetarian and vegan performers
- To conduct a ballot for representatives to the London, East and South East (LESE) TUC Committee and the LESE TUC Creative and Leisure Industries Committee
- To trial remote access for members wishing to attend the South West Area AGM
The Council also discussed:
- The launch of the #MyCardMyUnion campaign
- The letter on Brexit signed by non-affiliated Trades Unions (see here)
- The auditor’s report concerning Equity monies still held by the British Equity Collecting Society
- Cultural Appropriation

The Council also welcomed a new record number of members in benefit, with the union’s total membership (excluding students) now standing at 45,730.
