Equity General Secretary Christine Payne attended a Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport meeting this morning and she forcibly argued for government intervention to save the live performance industry.
It is clear that the live performance industry will be one of the last to return to any form of normal operation.
Equity is calling on Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden and Chancellor Rishi Sunak to urgently bring forward an investment plan to protect jobs and workplaces - without one, efforts to develop return to work guidance will be meaningless.
“We are constructively engaging with DCMS to identify sections of live performance that can resume work, however it is crystal clear that the majority of our workplaces and the people who work in them will need ongoing financial support for the months ahead. We call on Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden and Chancellor Rishi Sunak to urgently bring forward an investment plan for the sector to protect jobs and workplaces – without one, efforts to develop return to work guidance will be meaningless.”
