Reacting to the Chancellor's announcement today in the Commons that grants for the self-employed will rise from 20% to 40% of profits, Equity General Secretary Paul Fleming said:
"The fact remains that 40% of Equity's 48,000 members are excluded from the Self-Employed Income Support Scheme and nothing announced today addresses this injustice. For those who are eligible, 40% is well below the support being offered to other workers. This isn't good enough for creative workers, who are among the hardest hit during this pandemic and are also about to be hit with the reimposition of the Minimum Income Floor element of Universal Credit. The Chancellor needs to deliver parity for all working people now. We'll keep demanding the scheme is expanded and extended, not just tinkered with & further reduced."
