Equity welcomes £29 million funding allocated to arts and culture in Northern Ireland

Equity welcomes the news that the Northern Ireland Executive has allocated £29 million of funds to help the arts and cultural sectors in Northern Ireland survive the Covid-19 pandemic.

This much-needed allocation is in addition to the other funding previously announced by the Department for Communities, and will provide a lifeline to the organisations and workers impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

Adam Adnyana, Equity's Scotland and Northern Ireland National Organiser said: "Equity welcomes the announcement from the NI Executive which sees £29m of Westminster funding allocated to the arts. The arts sector in NI has experienced significant hardship due to Covid, and this funding can provide much needed relief to organisations and individuals.

"The priority now must be to distribute these funds, and Equity will continue to lobby the Department for Communities to highlight the needs of our members, particularly those who have been unable to earn and have limited access to other forms of financial support."
