In response to the Prime Minister's announcement of a four-step plan to release England from lockdown, Equity General Secretary Paul W Fleming has issued the following statement:
"There's now a light at the end of the tunnel for the coronavirus pandemic – but the pandemic of precariousness for Equity members is more severe than ever. The government's re-opening aspirations, in order to safeguard public health and our economy, must include significant additional support for theatres, pubs, clubs, cinemas and other venues. Most importantly of all, however, it must safeguard its workforce. With 40% of Equity's members having not received a penny from furlough or SEISS since March, we need a targeted support package for the arts and entertainment workforce which has fallen through the gaps.
"Boris Johnson has shown us the map to reopening, now it's up to Rishi Sunak to build the road."
