Equity welcomes further support for freelancers in Scotland

Equity is delighted by yesterday's announcement of additional financial support for freelancers in Scotland, with a further £17.5 million of funding allocated to creative freelancers and the events sector.

The funding was announced following a meeting between Equity and the Scottish government, in which our Scotland National Organiser Adam Adnyana directly asked Cabinet secretary for Economy, Fair Work and Culture Fiona Hyslop for freelancers funding on behalf of Equity members.

A further £17.5 million of emergency Covid-19 funding has been allocated to support creative freelancers and the events sector. Of that £17.5 million, £9 million will be distributed as a top-up to the Creative Freelancers Hardship Fund bringing the total value of support for creative freelancers to £17 million.

Adam Adnyana said: "Equity has consistently lobbied the Scottish Government for support to be directed to creative freelancers, not just large organisations and employers. It is encouraging to see further financial support allocated specifically for freelancers and we will continue to campaign for future support through these challenging times."
