Equity welcomes CERD report on the state of race and racism in England

Equity welcomes the report released today by Runnymede Trust on the state of race and racism in England to the United Nations CERD.

Leo Wan of Equity's Race Equality Committee said: ''This report confirms what people who experience racism have known and lived - that systemic, institutional and structural racism exists in the UK. The government squandered a golden opportunity to meaningfully tackle systemic racism with its widely discredited Sewell Report and attempts to spark an illusory culture war. The pandemic has disproportionately affected people who experience racism, both within our industry and in wider society. As we move towards reopening, it's imperative that employers recognise that unless pay and conditions improve,  they will be contributing to the inequalities that this report so starkly illustrates."
