Equity agrees code of conduct with Prime Wrestling Entertainment

Equity has agreed a code of conduct with Newcastle based Prime Wrestling Entertainment (PWE) setting out best practice for the producer and performers.
 
The code, signed by PWE, sets out terms and conditions for performers, staff and management in writing, provides a dignity at work policy, and allows time and access for performers to engage with the union. This will be supported by an agreed formal disciplinary and grievance policy.
 
PWE is the latest in a number of wrestling producers across the country that have embraced Equity agreements as the industry addresses the safety and equality concerns that have plagued it. Wrestling’s own #MeToo movement, known as #SpeakingOut, has highlighted stories of sexual abuse, assault and predation. 
 
A recent report from the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Wrestling made a number of recommendations to address these and other areas of concern in the industry. Equity gave substantial evidence to the APPG and welcomed the report’s comprehensive analysis of the UK professional wrestling industry.
 
Equity Organiser for the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside Dominic Bascombe said: "As the industry re-opens and members return to work, we are keen to ensure that they are going to places of work where there are policies in place to ensure their safety and ways to address any matters of concern. This agreement with PWE recognises that through working constructively together, we can ensure stronger, safer and fairer workplaces.”
