Advice on Social Security (also known as ‘welfare benefits’), tax, National Insurance and other sources of financial support

Social security, tax and financial support

Tax and social security advice and support for the performing arts community

Knowing your options surrounding financial support, social security and tax is important within the performing arts industry.

If you’re struggling financially and have come to us for advice, we recommend that you start by looking at help available from the state (Social Security). Many other sources only help if you already get all the state help you are entitled to.

If you’re an Equity member, the Social Security and Tax Advice team can provide you with free advice and representation in the areas of tax, social security and national insurance law, the number to call can be found on this page.

Additional help and advice for members can be found below. Find more information about the various areas of support that may be available to you, such as universal credit, maternity, parental and childcare rights and tax and national insurance.

Please note

We cannot advise on debt, housing or immigration. Please contact your local Citizens Advice instead.
