Policy

As the voice of 50,000 creative and performing arts professionals, we work to influence government policy on issues affecting our members. Find out about our policy work and read our latest reports and submissions to government consultations.

Many issues facing our members stretch beyond a specific workspace, producer or agreement. We seek structural changes to address these challenges.

Our Policy Team meet with MPs and Peers across the political spectrum, with local governments across the UK and with national governments in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland. We lobby for new rights, better protections and increased funding. We ask Parliamentary questions, host Parliamentary events and brief MPs, ministers, civil servants and mayors to ensure that our members' voices are heard by those in power. We also seek to influence major employers and institutions such as the BBC and the national Arts Councils.

Working in partnership

We co-founded the Broadcasting, Entertainment and Arts Unions (BEAU) (pictured) with Bectu, Musicians’ Union, National Union of Journalists and Writers’ Guild of Great Britain. Together, we seek structural improvements to conditions for performers, creatives and writers. Equity is also a founding member of the International Federation of Actors (FIA), our global federation.
