POSTPONED: Proud Cabaret Rally: Stop the exploitation of performers!
POSTPONED - future date TBC
The Proud rally is being postponed with the intention to hold it on another date.
The campaign is ongoing and has so far gathered support from councillors at Brighton & Hove and Hackney – where two of the venues concerned are located – and we are waiting to hear back from others.
Join us outside Sinners Shoreditch, a proposed new cabaret venue in the borough of Hackney, to call for a stop to exploitative business practices. No more unpaid workers!
Equity and Cabaret Unpaid are calling for accountability for unpaid workers to the tune of £100k.
Equity have raised concerns and mounted legal action against multiple LTD companies which have dissolved, leaving numerous performers owed significant amounts of money. These companies include Proud Galleries Ltd, Strand Photography Gallery Ltd, and Proud Group Ltd.
Cabaret Unpaid have collected accounts from workers that amount to more than £100k of unpaid wages owed by associated companies.
We have lost faith that there is any effort being made to remunerate the precarious workers who have been left out of pocket.
We are asking for Hackney Council, City of London Corporation, and Brighton and Hove City Council to carry out an immediate review of the licences for any associated venues. We urgently ask that they investigate whether there are active phoenixing strategies taking place in their boroughs leaving workers unpaid.
RSVP to the event to let us know you're coming and to get the full address.
