Stop the Cuts: Petition hand-in to Suffolk Council

Equity members hand in a petition with nearly 4,000 signatures to Suffolk County Council calling on them to Stop the Cuts to culture funding

Last week Equity members, together with Equity's Official for the East of England Iain Croker, delivered a 3.8k signature petition to Suffolk County Council calling on them to Stop the Cuts to Suffolk culture funding.

When Suffolk County Council announced a 100% cut to culture funding this year, Equity members sprung into action, launching a petition, calling a public protest, gaining the support of political candidates, and speaking to SEND audience goers affected by the cuts.

Within weeks we won a concession of a replacement fund of £500,000. This was progress, but we weren’t satisfied, so we announced our own alternative funding plan for the arts. We mobilised hundreds of people to email Suffolk County Council to demand they support our proposals.

To date almost 4,000 Suffolk residents have signed a petition demanding core funding is maintained for the existing nine Suffolk arts organisations.

Neither Equity nor the Suffolk residents have received any reply or acknowledgement from the council. We will maintain the pressure to Stop the Cuts to Suffolk culture funding.
